Don't you feel happy after spending some time with your pet specifically dogs?
Do you know why??
Originally dogs are the epitome of unconditional love, loyalty and companionship. They have been domesticated for ages and are often referred to as a man's best friend offering several physical and mental benefits.

Now, what are the benefits of having a dog?
Well, studies have proven that dogs help reduce stress, anxiety, loneliness, depression, and improve overall mental health by providing a calming and soothing environment. They are not only mental healers but also the best companions when it comes to physical activities as they are packed with energy. They enjoy running and playing, along with their natural curiosity for exploring their surroundings, which helps their human companion stay active. This, in turn, helps reduce various health risks such as cancer, heart and kidney issues, and diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia. Apart from this, they are involved in providing emotional support, assistance and security.
But do you know how can dogs be stress relievers?
A study conducted at Chiang Mai University in Thailand revealed that spending just 10-15 minutes with a furry friend can boost the production of oxytocin (the love hormone), while decreasing cortisol levels by 33.5%. And it's not a one-way but a two-way relationship. Not only humans’ but dogs also have shown results of reduced cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Those belly rubs and head pats are not only enjoyable but also relaxing for them. On the other hand, they help humans wash away their anxieties, unwind their minds and enjoy a playful and soothing time.
Additionally, for conditions like Autism and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), dogs have been proven to provide a sense of safety and warmth, helping to alleviate mental distress.
In a nutshell, dogs are not only pets but also natural stress relievers. Their caring and supporting nature helps in improving both mental and physical health. Even a short interaction can uplift your mood and make you feel better. So, the next time you see a dog, don’t forget to give it a pat!
